Lot 751
CILICIA. Tarsos. Pharnabazos, Persian military commander, 380-374/3 BC. Stater (Silver, 25 mm, 10.65 g, 9 h). Diademed female head facing slightly to left, wearing pendant earrings and elaborate necklace; to lower left, dolphin left. Rev. 𐡂𐡃𐡍𐡊𐡆𐡃 ('frnbz klk' in Aramaic) Bearded head of Ares (?) to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with a volute on the bowl and slight drapery around neck. Casabonne Series 3. Moysey Issue 3, 41-2. SNG Levante -. SNG Paris 247. Nicely toned. The obverse struck from a worn die and with some scratches, and the reverse heavily double struck, otherwise, very fine.

From the private collection of the Swiss Archaeologist Philipp Reto Huser (1962-2025), privately acquired in Swiss coin trade over the past 30 years.
The double strike on the back of this piece is almost dramatic, revealing an additional eye - that of the subtype - on the brow plate of the helmet, gazing toward the heavens
